New Campus building in Novi Sad represents an intention of Epic Games to develop a new headquarters for its Novi Sad team, 3Lateral, a team that develops innovative technologies that enable digitization of human appearance and motion at an unprecedented level of realism, on a global level.

The campus location is sandwiched between the old city center, residential zone, University Center, and Danube river banks, so the combination of context forces overlapped with a very complex layered program of the building generated the architecture and appearance of the building.

Interpreting the local history and architectural heritage, resulted in layered appearance, reflecting local architectural discourse. The facade strategy was based on the intersection of different diagrams like the analysis of the relation between building functional blocks and close surroundings, the diagram of the Sun movement during the day having an impact on MEP design and user’s well-being, and the diagram of the building communications, functions, building usage patterns, time patterns.

Academic atrium splits the campus into 2 main functional parts, an office block, and a studio block, providing a soothing ambiance in the shaded yard. On the top of the studio block there is a roof garden envisioned as an extension of the surrounding parks, and keeping the beauty of nature in people’s eyes all the time by being designed to change together with seasons.

The studio block was designed to accommodate a data center, an auditorium, and relevant studios and workshops related to motion capture activities and high-level production technologies. The most challenging task for studio block design was to coordinate nonstandard and specific solutions. The variety of studio sizes, proportions, and heights and their specific technologies with following MEP design, and data center, as well, demanded flexible, futureproofing, and complex approach to design, combining different structure concepts, highly professional and innovative acoustic solutions, anti-vibration strategy and technologies.

The sustainability of the building is reflected, not only in the facade, but also in water management, irrigation strategy, MEP design, and roof landscape design.
